ELDP eagles emerging leader development program
ELDP Mentoring Relationship
Our mentors are Christ-centered leaders - men and women from varied personal and corporate backgrounds: church, business, education, media, government and social services. They are committed to supporting the growth and development of all ELDP participants as leaders. The mentoring program is mentoree-driven; each participant is encouraged to leverage the wealth of resources and experiences of their mentors. Please feel free to email your questions to shirleykimchem@gmail.com
FAQs
- How often must we meet and how shall we communicate?
The minimum recommended contact is four face-to-face interactions a year. However, both parties may mutually agree to meet more often as deemed necessary or as requested by the mentoree. The most common communication mode is by email or SMS, outside of face-to-face sessions. - How many mentorees does a mentor have?
Most mentors are assigned one mentoree. Some could have as many as four mentorees at any one time. All mentors will be consulted if more than one mentoree has asked for him/her. - How is a mentor selected?
All mentors are Christian leaders from many sectors of the community who have agreed to be a mentor to support the growth of young leaders. His/her CV is made available at the ELDP and he/she is freely selected by the mentoree. A mentor is a more experienced Christian leader who displays these characteristics:
- Seek to live a God-centered life
- Have the passion, willingness and time to develop younger leaders
- Willing to share and learn from the mentoring relationships
- Must I select a mentor from the same business I am in?
As the mentoring process is mentoree-driven, you get to select the mentor whom you feel will meet your mentoring objectives, support your leadership development, and provide the guidance in specific areas based on their experience as disclosed in the CV. Your mentor is not a 'know-all' person but he/she will open up other networks for you. At the same time, you will have access to other mentors in different fields of expertise and experience. If you do need help in a particular area for which your mentor has no expertise, please contact us at 6419 5258 or email Samantha@eagles.org.sg. We will try to connect you with a mentor with the relevant expertise. - What is the mentor's role in my spiritual growth?
The mentor's role is primarily to support your learning and growth as a leader, but you are free to discuss your personal spiritual needs and experiences as all mentors are strong Christ-centered leaders. However, they are not all pastors nor are they all theologically trained. - What if the mentoring relationship does not work? Can I change my mentor/mentoree?
Yes, if either party feels that the arrangement is not working out, please communicate with us, and we will faciltate new assignments. If the relationship does not work out after two sessions, please contact us immediately, and we will connect you with another mentor or mentoree. - What is the role of a mentor?
A mentor's role is to facilitate the development of the mentoree as a leader- He/she can be a resource coach, guide and advisor/friend.
- A mentor can provide perspective and accountability. He/she can help mentorees think through their long-term goals, be a thinking partner, and provide unbiased independent advice and counsel on issues that the mentoree may be working on.
- He/she can ask about the lessons learnt after each ELDP session and help mentorees apply lessons learnt and tools shared.
- He/she can also be a sounding board for the assigned project that is part of the course. But a mentor is not expected to supervise any project work.
- What happens if my mentor is not resident in my city and I am unable to meet him/her face-to-face?
As far as possible, we will assign mentors that can meet participants face-to-face in their home cities. This is possible because some of our mentors travel to various cities in the course of their work. They will make every effort to meet you. Some faculty are also mentors so you would have met them at ELDP sessions. You can also continue to communicate via email, SMS or SKYPE.
